Been a while since I've posted here. Been a busy fall. The egg bite has definately picked up lately. Salmon are on redds from downtown down to Bend. Valley steelhead are in the mix throughout the system. If you aren't catching fish right now...something is broke!

See the previous entry...hope it stays this way for a while!

Great!! Losing count!! Throw it in, mend and count 10...

Sucker spawn and any other fly that has a hook.

Call in sick and go fishing before the boat hatch gets started.

Flows are high...still. Fish seem grabby one day finicky the next. I think it has a lot to do with almost daily weather changes and angling pressure. Timing is everything in life....Sunny, warm, near-windless days sure make things better. Pink and yellow spawn, caddis pupae and mayfly nymphs are on the menu..for me anyways. Your mileage may vary.

Good to outstanding on the Sac before the rains hit yesterday. No kidding, it was as good as it gets there for a while depending on angler skill and boat traffic. It's all about the drift! We were seeing swarms of ovipositing caddis off and on during the last warm spell...almost that time again. The next time the sun shines for more than a day should kick the caddis into high gear. I'm picking up fish on small, bright green "anything" caddis-looking nymphs. Small Zug Bugs and yellow micro spawn really working too. Pink micro spawn around the few salmon that are left...there were even a couple of fish taken on dries in a nameless(here anyway) flat. Cheers

Fished the lower Sac at 27,500 cfs and flows were coming down during the day. Changing flows definately podded-up the fish. A few really nice ones were landed by my guests using micro-spawn, Zug Bugs and Micro Mays. Tried a little stillwater fishing on Wednesday. No surprise...40+ chromie, jumping, hard fighting bows to 16" were brought to hand. No wind, warm...we were sight casting to pods of 10-50 fish at the surface over ~80ft of water. Very cool place that will remain un-named...by me anyways. Buggers and midges worked as long as the fly was black. What a blast on 4wts.

Good to Great!! Flows are up...down..then up again but the big fish parade keeps rolling. I'm continually amazed at the big fish bite this time of year. The egg/alevin bite continues! What we are lacking in numbers, we are certainly making up for in size. Check out the latest client photos. There is even a surprise bright, January steelhead thrown in. My clients and those of my fellow guides are consistently landing large rainbows on a daily basis...sure hope this lasts for a while.

Big fish time!! With all the steelhead rivers running high, focus has been on the lower Sac and it's been great. Flows are returning to normal and it's good as it gets for big fish right now. Alevins and glo bugs and bead eggs seem to be the menu as the bigger fish put on weight before they spawn in the spring. See some of the newest client photos.

Fished for several days below Iron Gate dam. Clients landed good numbers of wild and hatchery adults to 4 pounds and assorted 1/2 pounders. It will only get better through January. BBBrrrrr it's cold there! New client photos coming soon!

Fishing was good before the weekend crowds took over. We landed several nice fish on 20 inchers, glo bugs and Shafer's 3Ds. See new client photos for a nice sea-run brown Brett from Simi Valley landed. He followed that up with 2 nice steelhead right at the end of the day. Fish inspired and refuse to be denied!! Way to go Brett.
